HOW DO I KNOW WHICH MOULD I NEED AND WHICH MODIFICATIONS TO DO?
The process to decide which mould to use is easy.
- Measure the wear on each mould using the special measuring device (Rail Wear Gauge)
- Use the matrix below to determine which wear moulds you should be using
Example 1
Wear on the first rail is 8 mm
Wear on the second rail is 11 mm
Then we should be using a hybrid C mould.
Modification of the mould:
We will need to file 7 mm (file around one and a half step) at the top of the mould to bring it to a 8 mm wear (15 minus 7).
In fact you always consider the less worn rail for the wear mould modification (apply on both sides)
Example 2
Wear on the first rail is 12 mm
Wear on the second rail is 7 mm
Then we should be using a hybrid B mould.
Modification of the mould:
We will need to file 8 mm (a bit more than one and a half step) at the top of the mould to bring it to a 7 mm wear (15 minus 8).
In fact you always consider the less worn rail for the wear mould modification (apply on both sides)
